COLEVILLE, Mono County — U.S. Highway 395 connects Coleville with other Eastern Sierra communities and Nevada. Snow, wind and collisions can change travel conditions quickly, particularly when a route crosses mountain passes.
State highways and neighboring Nevada roads
Use Caltrans QuickMap to check California highway restrictions and chain controls. If a trip crosses the state line, consult Nevada 511 for Nevada road conditions. A clear segment on one state’s map does not establish that the whole route is open.
Forecasts and local notices
The National Weather Service issues warnings for snow, high wind and other hazards. Mono County provides local government and emergency-management information, including resources for residents and visitors.
Winter driving checklist
Check the full route before departure, carry chains when required, keep warm clothing and drinking water in the car, and avoid driving into closed areas. Do not assume a road is safe merely because an online map calculates a travel time. Emergency responders may have limited access during major storms.
